چکیده

This paper describes a new method, called theCT-direction method, in which the fiber directions in woodin three-dimensional space are calculated from the pixelinformation on a series of two-dimensional computed to-mography images. Local fiber directions are calculated fromthe principal directions of inertia of measurement spheresdistributed throughout the body of the wood object. Thecalculated fiber directions are probably due to densitystreaks in the material, such as fiber bundles, which aredirected in the fiber direction, and not the density of indi-vidual fibers, which are too small to be detected. The fiberdirections vary locally, and density streaks from knots, growth rings, and compression wood influence the results, which adds spread to the results. The fiber directions arepresented as spiral grain angles and conical angles and arecompared with spiral grain angles measured with the trac-heid-effect method. The comparisons show that the CT-direction method is a nondestructive way to measure fiberdirections locally and in the interior of the body of a piece ofwood.

Literature Review of Traffic Assignment: Static and Dynamic

Rapid urban growth is resulting into increase in travel demand and private vehicle ownership in urban areas. In the present scenario the existing infrastructure has failed to match the demand that leads to traffic congestion, vehicular pollution and accidents. With traffic congestion augmentation on the road, delay of commuters has increased and reliability of road network has decreased. Four s...

Mathematical Modelling and Experimental Investigation of Dehumidifier Drying of Radiata Pine Timber♣

A dynamic kiln-wide wood drying model was developed previously to solve the integral form of the unsteady-state mass, momentum and energy balance equations in the air side. For the wood side, an empirical model, characteristic drying curve, for the internal moisture movement is used, which was obtained for low and medium temperature drying of Pinus radiata, with a medium velocity of 1.44.1 m s....

The performance of bolt-reinforced and shotcreted in-stope pillar in a rockburst prone areas

Historically, the design of the in-stope pillar in underground excavations has been based on empirical formulae and numerical modelling. Although these design methods have been extensively applied in several gold mines in South Africa, rockburst, in-stope pillar burst/failure are continuously reported as the major problem faced by mines. Therefore, this study attempts to compare the performance...

Drying Strategies Capable of Reducing the Stress Level of a Stack of Boards as Defined by a Comprehensive Dual Scale Model

During drying, stresses and deformations develop in a wood board due to shrinkage fi elds which result from moisture content and temperature fi eld variations. In spite of numerous works done in wood drying modelling in the last decades, wood drying optimisation based on modelling and simulation remains far from initial expectations. Two main reasons can explain this assessment: the huge variab...

Using Interval Petri Nets and Timed Automata for Diagnosis of Discrete Event Systems (DES)

A discrete event system (DES) is a dynamic system that evolves in accordance with the abrupt occurrence, at possibly unknown irregular intervals, of physical events. Because of the special nature of these systems, different tools are currently used for their analysis, design and modeling. The main focus of this paper is the presentation of a new modeling approach of Discrete Event Systems. The ...
